Commenti: Nonostante l'elevata curva d'apprendimento, dovuta anche al fatto che impiega C++ come linguaggio di programmazione, con tutti i limiti che ciò comporta, UE4 è il miglior motore di gioco attualmente sul mercato per un utilizzo professionale. Si può imparare grazie a numerosissimi tutorial gratuiti sul web e le lezioni della stessa Epic Game. Sono disponibili numerosissimi asset gratuiti per creare qualunque tipo di prototipo di gioco per sperimentare tutte le funzioni, imparare a programmare e creare il proprio portfolio in vista di un impiego nel game development.

Aspetti positivi:

La possibilità di impiegare numerose funzionalità per creare gratuitamente interfacce interattive, simulazioni e altre cose in modo gratuito. Addirittura si riesce a creare un videogioco e compilarlo con un clic per la pubblicazione su ogni tipo di sistema operativo, partendo dallo stesso codice sorgente e dagli stessi dati creati dal motore.

Aspetti negativi:

Se si deve vendere un videogioco creato con UE4, purtroppo i costi iniziali cominciano a pesare fin quasi da subito, a differenza del suo maggior concorrente, Unity 3D.

La caratteristica che distingue unreal engine da altri software per la creazione di videogiochi è il suo potente motore grafico che offre grafica di alta qualità e rendering realistico. È facilissimo per uno sviluppatore creare mondi virtuali e immersivi. Altra caratteristica che ho apprezzato di unreal engine è la possibilità grazie al launcher di epic games di poter scaricare librerie di texture e oggetti già renderizzati da aggiungere nella nostra creazione.

La complessità per chi è alle prime armi nel mondo dello sviluppo di videogiochi può essere una barriera quando utilizziamo unreal engine. Sconsigliato a chi non ha mai avuto esperienze in questo campo

Di Unreal Engine mi è piaciuta sopra ogni cosa la sua facilità d'uso rispetto ad altri programmi del genere. Avere la possibilità di sviluppare un gioco senza scrivere una riga di codice è sicuramente una marcia in più per Unreal!

Di Unreal migliorerei solo i menù delle varie impostazioni, che per un utente alle prime armi potrebbero risultare un pò difficili da capire.

Commenti: I really liked using Unreal and prototyping quick ideas. It's a really flexible engine and really powerful. Even the testing stuff look and run great. I wish there was a more open community that helped each other out or introduced new users to advanced knowledge of the engine that you will only earn with time by using it.

Unreal Engine has grown over the years and it's now more friendly to single developers, indy movie produces and indy game studios as well. It has a robust toolset that allows you to create 3D games with one of the best engines for realistic looks, yet you can use models that fit your artistic vision, ex: stylized games. If you want an example of how small studios can make a good unreal game, look for Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice and if you want to look for AAA Games that look extremely realistic or movie quality, look at Gears of War 5 or Kingdom Hearts 3. Unreal also has an asset store where you can buy models or tools to help you quickly build or prototype your game and it has a blueprint system that allows you to program your game logic without knowing how to write in C++. The engine also runs in a myriad of platforms including mobile.

One of the downsides of Unreal is how complex it is when comparing it to Godot or Unity. The community for it, it's very small and a lot of the people who have knowledge on Unreal are tied behind studio contracts and maybe they're not allowed to share or help around in the web much, but when you look at Unity, there's dozens and dozens of websites, youtubers, courses and resources that you could basically build a game with no knowledge, but in Unreal it will take a lot of time and expertise on what you're doing. Also one last thing, you can build 2D games in Unreal, but you're better off using GameMaker or Unity for 2D Games. The community and engine support is just bigger and bettter.

Commenti: I wanted to learn to make Games but struggled with programming and Unreal Engine made it a very simple and straight forward process along with having lots of great assets for free every month. Most of the time if I need help I can find it either via the forums or youtube and udemy tutorials to bring my dream game ideas fully to life along with learning more each and every day.

I love that UE is backed by amazing tutorials, keeps improving, has a lot of free assets, and is always very fun to jump right into using constantly along with the fact that it has the best Visual Scripting (Blueprints) toolset around to make it easy for anyone to make games or other various projects.

Aspetti negativi:

Programming can be frustrating at times, Customer Support is almost non-existent, and occasionally trying to learn how to do something in it can become a nuance. On top of that some of the plugins and tools from third-parties are extremely expensive and overpriced which can force hackney methods to problem-solve.

There are many reasons why making a new game in Unreal can be overwhelming, frustrating, or even a good idea, but there are also many reasons why making a new game in Unreal can be the best option for your project. The Unreal Engine can be a good tool if your entire team is familiar with it, depending on the type of game you're making.

The visuals in Unreal Engine games are stunning, and the cross-platform capabilities are excellent. Technically, it's superior to Unity, but in terms of usability, it's more stable. In terms of updates and bug fixes, Unreal is ahead of Unity, and its pricing is unbeatable.

Aspetti negativi:

The node material editor is the only thing I can think of that I don't like. It's not very user-friendly, and the names of the nodes required to construct a material are unlike anything I've seen in any other DCC. Because of just that one aspect, the learning curve is quite steep.

Incredibly Powerful Tool for Architectural Visualization with Fantastic Pricing Structure

Commenti: Our experience with the engine has been phenomenal. The combination of the freedom-of-entry without product limitations and the vast array of free assets and plugins made available by Epic Games has allowed prototyping to progress with great speed. If we had to make all of the materials and models ourselves instead of simply assembling, lighting, and rigging them, it would make previsualization cost-prohibitive for our small team which also juggles many other types of work.

I love that Epic Games, creator of Unreal Engine, has a pricing model which makes the full version of the product available for free to anyone, and only charges when creators make money from the content they produce.

Aspetti negativi:

There is a lack of broader support in Unreal for 3D assets made in other programs, with the only accepted filetype being .fbx . As it was, assets created by others frequently had to go through a 3D modeling program to export from their existing file type to fbx, often losing some aspects of the data (such as positional placement, scale, etc.) along the way. Overall, however, this is a very minor issue.

Commenti: Despite the difficulties of its extensive features, it's an investment for the future. New versions and future games use the same methodology and once core features have been masters, learning new things comes with ease. There's also a lot of information, guides, courses and tutorials available to those who want to learn quicker and more efficient.

UE has everything needed for creation of games. Their advanced animation trees are an extremely useful resource that has never failed, be it with indie of AAA games.

Aspetti negativi:

To use UE is to put yourself through years of mastering details. The difficulty curve is steep and the advanced UI of the program doesn't make it much easier. It is but a tool for those who already posses knowledge on how to use it, but for small-time indie companies it's an investment of time and money trying to figure out how to achieve their goals.

Maybe if you are trying to make a game at first you will be overwhelmed by the ui of UE and is fair, also the complexity of UE is why this program is often used by professionals, the nodes are not friendly with newcomers.

It's a very useful and powerful tool for game development and 3D environment presentation, thanks to it, I've been able to create very realistic and interactive environments. The lighting effects and material presentation are perhaps the best on the market, all this with great fluidity, without taking hours to render scene by scene like traditional rendering software.

Commenti: I recommend Unreal for any Studio that doesn't need an in-house engine and wants to work on 3D heavy projects. This engine will allow any Studio with the right resources, to create a project that could easily compete with bigger Studios. It's easily accessible, cheap, powerful and has a great history and support to it.

Being based on an existing game, and evolving since the earlier ages of 3D games, Unreal3D is the perfect match for any Studio which doesn't want to build, maintain and optimize its own in-house Engine. The expertise of Epic, the number of users worldwide and the multiple layers of development allows many different users to access and create assets/features easily. The Engine comes up with a great online tutorial and basic project within the engine, allowing anyone to play around and create prototypes easily. Blueprints are also a great way for anyone to experiment with behaviors and mechanics, without any code knowledge. When getting deeper into the production of a project, the possibility to turn those blueprints into actual C++ code, offers even more optimization possibilities to the developers. The access to a lot of plugins, assets and blueprints on the Unreal Marketplace is also a great way to share knowledge and allow projects to move forward.

The Engine is heavy and demands a powerful computer. This is a mandatory investment if you want to push your project further. The Engine is also very fat and the bigger it grows, the more space it will take on your versioning software. Unreal3D also offers limited compatibility with git (our version software of choice).

The First choice of every AAA game developers

Commenti: I am a professional game developer and working on three game projects out of which I want to make one game not so extraordinary means I want to make a basic game which is nearly impossible with Unreal Engine because it doesn't support some 3D models and their textures and so I am using a different Game Engine to develop this kind of low-end game.
But other than that, Unreal Engine is really helping me a lot in making high-end games .
