Easy setup process even for non technical users to install is the number one reason QuickBooks Desktop Pro wins and the 30 Days trial version come in very handy.

Aspetti negativi:

Lack of Wholesale and Manufacturing modules with QuickBooks Desktop Pro means I cant have BOM (Bill of Material) and this is quit limiting as it need an entirely new installation and license for its advance version that is QuickBooks Enterprise.

Quickbooks Desktop for Everything But Payroll

Commenti: QuickBooks desktop works for most of my needs except for uploading up to date foreign exchange rates. This feature is only available in the online version. Same thing with payroll which will only be available online as of Q2 2024.

It is possible to use the same version for several years. The desktop version allows for all required functions except for preparing payroll. It is possible to import bills, create recurring entries, file GST and PST taxes, create and save financial statements all through the desktop version.

Aspetti negativi:

Not the most recent version of QuickBooks, thus when new versions are released, you do not have access to the features.

Using Accountant's Desktop for 10 years. Worse now then ever.

Commenti: It has gotten much worse over the past 10 years. It is more expensive, and the product is worse. I could handle the increased cost if they just would have left it alone. All of the "enhancements" over the past 10 years have not enhanced my experience one little bit. The complaints on the QB forums with Accountant's Statement Writer have been ignored. When one of their team posts a reply, "It can be done":, it actually can't. Then we have to reply that the posted information is incorrect and won't work. Now... recently... they just provided an "enhancement" "update" which has interfered with the functionality of statement writer and client-ready payroll reports, both which export to Excel, and both of which will only work with different older versions of Excel. Yes... that's what Accountants want to do... try to find two different older versions of Excel so that you can get Quickbooks to function properly. A call to ProAdvisor Support actually made matters worse. So, I figured out the workaround and called back so that they could screenshot my computer and report the issues to the next Level 2 engineers. It took another hour to explain the problems, for which there is no fix. Why am I unpaid for debugging their software. With no apparent enhancement over the past ten years, they should have just left the program alone and charged a modest fee instead of doubling the cost and making the product worse. I am paying more for a lower-quality program, using the "Accountant's" version. By the way... I've been a CPA for decades... began my practice before hard drives were invented. This is now currently the worst software I have ever used.

Exporting important Accounting Reports to Excel. Some of those reports SHOULD be written into the software, just like other accounting software programs. An issue for 10 years on the forums that Quickbooks has continually ignored.

Great, Except The Transferring

Commenti: Honestly, although the overall experience was acceptable, the difficulties encountered when switching from desktop to online completely ruined it. Once you learn the process, it is quite straightforward, but they really need to improve the ability to transfer.

Although the learning curve was quite steep, once I mastered it, it became relatively simple and easy to use. Despite my best efforts at the time, I often ended up doing a lot of last-minute filing for my taxes, so I typically went through the phase of "How do I do this again?" each year. However, once I got back into the swing of things, I was usually able to complete my taxes within about two months.

There are two issues I would like to address. First, whenever I made a mistake, I had to manually review each transaction. Sometimes, the way I thought to fix the issue turned out to be incorrect, which required me to redo all of my work and then remember what I needed to do instead. It would be extremely helpful to have the ability to back up certain saves, so that if I made a significant mistake, I could simply reload the backup. Second, the transition from Desktop to Online was not smooth at all. You would think that since it is the same type of software, it would work seamlessly, right? However, I found it to be more akin to trying to load an Android memory onto an iPhone; some things simply did not load properly. Something clearly went wrong, as a loan appeared to be the exact opposite of what it was supposed to be. I still don’t fully understand why this was my experience. Further research has shown me that this is not unusual and that there are actually steps one can take to prevent this issue. However, how was I supposed to know? I mean, you don’t have to take extra steps to download information from an iPhone to your Mac laptop.

QuickBooks Desktop is a Great Solution for Your Business Accounting

Commenti: QB Desktop is an efficient and indispensable business application that has been of great value to my businesses. After 25 years of using QB I am certain it remains one of the best accounting software in the market, easier to use than most with a lot of video and interactive tutorials available online. I wont give it up easily unless i am forced to.

It is straight forwar to use and do invoicing and billing, and pay vendors, and create reports.

Aspetti negativi:

It is a pretty complex software with a lot of features and capabilities and makes doing accounting tedious and sometimes cumbersome. Not everything is DIY and for somethings you need to get some help. Also some features cost extra and Intuit is moving QBD to QB Online.

QuickBooks Desktop will be missed

It does everything you need to run your business. It's very stable (although nothing is perfect) It has good support. We've been using it for decades and many of our clients have switched from other platforms to QuickBooks and never looked back

They are discontinuing QuickBooks desktop and going with QuickBooks online as their only product unless you want to move to QuickBooks Enterprise. I think this new business plan is great for Intuit, but doesn't take in to consideration the small business user that does NOT want to use online software.

Great Small Business Tool, with Limitations.

Commenti: QuickBooks Desktop was wonderful for our company and we were able to successfully work through the main processes of our business without too many capability setbacks. Unfortunately, the main issue with Quickbooks is (just like most other software) is that the setup better be done right the first time.

Limitations without purchasing additional features or upgraded service plans. Feature locked behind paywalls. Cost per user for a file and software that is locally hosted seems a bit absurd and data access being limited after your subscription is horrendous. Customer service is non-existent.

QuickBooks Desktop takes care of all of our accounting needs.

Commenti: I love using QuickBooks at work. I find it very easy to use and it solves all of our accounting needs while keeping track of our finances.

I like the fact that wring checks is so easy. If you need to make a change to the check, it is as easy as can be. The account detail reports are great. I like how you can split amounts into different accounting codes, etc.

Aspetti negativi:

The only thing I would change about QuickBooks is we should have a designated customer service person when we have an issue.

Good, but...

Commenti: I have used QuickBooks for two decades and for eight years in my current position. It fully meets our needs for day to day accounting, preparing reports for our Board and for processing payroll. However, their support is very poor and reaching a human being is incredibly frustrating.

QuickBooks Desktop is a powerful accounting package that offers good value for the cost. It has a lot of features that can address most of the needs of a small business.

Aspetti negativi:

QuickBooks will let an inexperienced user do just about anything they want which can result in a real mess if you're an accountant trying the prepare financial statements or tax returns. But with some training from an experienced accountant/user, a lot of the day to day accounting can be accomplished by a relatively inexperienced person. Some supervision is advised.

QuickBooks Desktop is Fast, Customizable and Easy. Best of the Best.

Commenti: The questions most people have is QuickBooks Desktop or QuickBooks Online. As a bookkeeper with multiple clients, it's a no brainer for me, QuickBooks Desktop!!! I refuse to work with QuickBooks Online. QuickBooks Desktop is lightning fast. There are numerous shortcuts with the keyboard that help process the daily routines. With being online, those keyboard shortcuts go away and now you have no move your hand from the keyboard to the mouse. It may not seem like much, but it's huge. The reporting features in QuickBooks Desktop are superior too. Yeah, your customer may not be able to have 24/7 access to their books, but if you're doing your job properly and getting them timely reports, most shouldn't need that.

Accounts payable is amazing. From tracking bills to writing checks to entering vendors. So easy. It also helps to make sure your 1099's are correct and in place for year end. Printing checks is a piece of cake and consistently easy! Accounts receivable is awesome. Whether you are tracking tenants or customers, they can be easily set up. Weekly, Monthly and Year End reporting can be done in a click of a 3 buttons, seriously. 3 Buttons pulls up your common report batches. Then you can print, save and email them.

Aspetti negativi:

When sending reports by pdf, I'd like to preview them first and adjust how they appear. Sometimes they can appear all wonky and not clean. The work around is to print to pdf. Then you can do it, just one extra step though.

Quickbooks POS

Commenti: Our overall experience since using POS 19.0 has been BAD.

The system is fairly easy to use and generally intuitive.

Aspetti negativi:

Since they did the upgrade to 19.0 they removed the multiple email options. We have used Quickbooks POS for over 12 years and it worked well. There were a few minor things we had to work around, but that was okay and it served our company well. Since upgrading to 19.0 we have had nothing but problems. Feature were taken away, the screens freeze, it locks up our computers, etc. Then there is the service issue - it will shut down my entire POS system so I'll have customer calling or waiting and not POS, can't process credit cards, ets. You call for service and it 15 minutes or more to get assistance. You go online for "faster service" and get a technician that can't help. HORRIBLE customer service. Once in a while you'll get a good technician who is knowledgeable, but that is very rare.

QuickBooks Desktop the elephant in the room

Commenti: It works and a lot of people know it. You can get yourself into more trouble than with some similarly priced products, but the are not as easy to use.

Commenti: We've lowered our overall fixed overhead costs, and the total costs of doing business each of our last 5 years directly from our use of Quickbooks. Oh yeah, and, we 've done it all measuring and overseeing where penny came from and went to using the fantastically simple accounting tools in the program.

Quickbooks is a marvel of cross-system integration.... the software is designed with convenience in mind. There is literally no excuse for not using this program for just about everything you could hope for in a financial accounting & quantitative analytics tool.

The analytics keep improving through the years. There are other programs out there that offer a better overall collage of informational data and analytics, but there's really nothing out there that has a total package of accounting metrics combined with overall analytical tools to use to measure your business or personal financial health with!

Easiest accounting software I've used

Aspetti positivi:

I have used Quickbooks for 19 years for twelve different companies in various industries and with various needs. QB is always easy and intuitive from every aspect, from the initial set-up of the company file to the day-to-day transaction entries. You don't need to be an accounting genius with a perfect knowledge of debits and credits in order to understand how to enter your transactions in QB. I especially like the set-up tools that guide you during set-up of various things, like payroll items. It takes the stress out of things. I also really appreciate that whether you're a new user or an experienced user, mistakes happen, and QB makes it so easy to correct or delete any transactions that you entered incorrectly.

Aspetti negativi:

The only two cons I have found in my varied experience are: 1) QB does not track Use Tax, so you have to use roundabout ways to calculate and track that; and 2) if you live somewhere that Sales Tax is charged at the state level as well as at a county or city level, it can be tricky to get your sales tax properly set up and properly entered on your invoices. I have read that QB Online now offers better Sales Tax tracking, but I have no experience with that yet.

QuickBooks for the Small Nonprofit Organization

Commenti: The program itself is excellent as seen from its popularity. My greatest need has been customer service technical support. I have been using QuickBooks for more than 20 years. Over this time I have been very happy with the improvement of their support. Depending on the level program chosen, there are varying degrees of support. I think this is the most important part of a program as complex as this. I am also very happy with the way payroll handles all the procedures automatically and that they build in the new legislation and regulations from all the states so the user is sure about what they are doing.

QuickBooks has a sufficiently wide variety of products/service agreements to satisfy the needs of small nonprofits. I find that the service has improved greatly over the years. The customer service people are extremely able to solve problems or explain processes. Also, since the user can choose between accrual and cash based accounting, small organizations can choose the system the best satisfies their particular circumstances. The payroll package is separate, so the customer can choose whether or not to do their own payroll or have someone else do it. The payment of payroll taxes is well supported and easy to use.

Aspetti negativi:

Because this software is so professional, there can be a steep learning curve for those without accounting or bookkeeping experience. It would be advisable for the new user to become familiar with entry level bookkeeping at least. QuickBooks also recommends that new users locate a current user to serve as a mentor. There are specially trained users who serve this role.

QB Desktop Pro Is A Great All In One Small Business Solution.

Commenti: My overall experience has been that it's great for my purposes. I have not had the need to look elsewhere as QB does everything I need it to do.

I like the fact that I can do all my invoicing with various different types of forms. It is also super easy to send Purchase Orders, check inventory, change pricing for items etc. It's a great all in one tool for running a Small Business. I also like the fact that the Desktop version is much cheaper than the online version where the subscription never ends. They try to justify it by saying you will have an updated version each year, but I have used the Desktop first in 2013 then didn't upgrade again until 2020. There wasn't really anything different aside from the fact that I couldn't get updates for the 2013 version anymore and some things were not working properly anymore. Other than that you can get many years of use off a one time payment rather than the expensive subscription for QB Online.

I don't like when certain glitches happen and there is no way to fix them. For example, I used to be able to set Thunderbird as my default email client when QB was going to send an email. All of a sudden, the selected email wouldn't open anymore in Thunderbird, and would only send through QB. I hate doing it that way because it doesn't save a copy in my sent folder. I tried to get help from QB but they had no solution to provide. I still don't know if it was a glitch or a change that happened because of an update because a lot of the support team don't even know much.

We have used QB POS Multi store for a couple years.

Aspetti positivi:

Ease of ringing up customers. It's very simple to start ringing people up. We didn't have to train our staff more than a couple minutes.

Aspetti negativi:

1. Tech support is horrible. There is a reason this is number one!!!!!! 2. If you have more than one computer at a location there are issues if you don't have a wired internet which brought us down for hours and hours and hours over weeks without anyone diagnosing this to be the issue. Customer service just kept logging in and changing the IP address without explaining what they were doing. I finally got a good tech support person that helped me figure it out and how to fix it on my own. (Do NOT use wireless internet. You MUST use hard wire to computer.) 3. We have inventory items that keep reappearing after deleting them. We then tried to merge them and they still keep reappearing. Tech support couldn't remove them either. This really messes up our reports. 4. We had a day that at the end of the day QB restarted and lost ALL the transactions for the day. We were never able to get the information back and it also took a weeks worth of transactions with it. Tech support never retrieved the information nor could explain what happened. 5. There is only 2 levels of departments. You have a "work around" for this by allowing you to customize a field, but you have to write the department name in each time. If you forget the exact word you used such as "snack" instead of "snacks" it won't run adequate reports. I can't imagine many places that don't need more departments. For example, I have "Tours" and "Merchandise" as my main departments. I want to have "Snacks" "Apparel" and even further under snacks I'd like to have "Cookies" "Chips", etc. 6. Sending and receiving files from Intuit server does not always go through. This would be ok if there were an error message, but there isn't. It just didn't send. The only way to be sure this didn't happen when running a report on headquarters is to check to see if there is information each day. I have more than one location so this is tedious. If I find a day that is missing I have to have the staff manually go in and resend data. 7. I'm sure I have MUCH more, but that was the ones I could think of off the top of my head and QB POS has taken up enough of my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I can find a better solution I would before you could blink your eyes. I am constantly looking and shopping around.

My 2nd Try At a Bookkeeping Software

Commenti: I didn't need a Bookkeeping program, I had a business account, deposited all my receipts from the business into that account. I paid all my business bills from that account. The BANK did my books! We moved back to Wisconsin in '98 where I had to collect sales tax. So I got a Bookkeeping program to keep track of my sales tax.

Aspetti positivi:

It did what I needed it to do, kept track of my sales tax for the State and up to 8 Counties I serve. Due to it being installed on my desktop it was programed with the tax regulations for my state of Wisconsin. When it's time to file the sales tax you have to have the complete sales for the year and the complete sales number of non-taxable sales. QB Desktop Pro always had those numbers ready for me.

Aspetti negativi:

I had no one to teach me, I was figuring it out as I went along, so I didn't get some of the vendors put in correctly at first. I had to re-work parts of it for income tax time and I never did figure out how to connect my bank.

Minimum expectations not met with QuickBooks POS 18.0

Commenti: Please save yourself some time/money/stress and a boatload of trouble - DO NOT USE QuickBooksPOS - go with Square, or write your own software. QuickBooks POS is a mess.

I thought it would be easily interfaced with QuickBooks Desktop. I thought it would track inventory and work well with my small business. I thought it would streamline inventory check in and pricing, and sales tax collection. I was wrong.

Aspetti negativi:

Literally rife with software quirks. The tax collection turns itself off at will - and the "help" line tells you it's because your software is "corrupt" - which is amazing since it's brand new, and ONLY they have been in it. It was not the "online" software, so how can it be corrupt? Be aware that the system will NOT be up and running efficiently - ever....so when they start charging you by the minute for help calls - after 60 days - they will leave you on hold for hours. I am not exaggerating - HOURS - our routine was .....1. open the shop 2. turn on POS terminal 3. Call quickbooks and spend 2 hours on line while they fix the problem of the day. Often times, it was the same problem from a week ago....Even on the way out, they screw you. so many issues with this software - built on an ancient Excel platform and they have not invested $$ to update it. And every time Microsoft sends an update, your system will crash. And every so often, it will just stop adding sales tax to stuff. And, when it is in the mood, it will freeze up and say "oops, something went wrong" on your screen. And every so often, you will have to re-boot the whole system. And you will have to check in merchandise on the sales floor because in order to check in inventory on a computer in the back room, you have to shut down the front register - and they HAVE PROGRAMMED IN A 15 MINUTE DELAY - before you can open it in the back room (sometimes it's 30 minutes). Fortunately, during this 15 minutes, they have a lovely pop up which is trying to sell you another license so you can use the software in the back room (which the sales agent told you would work, but it doesn't....). They never stop creating issues with the intention of getting you to buy another license......for software that doesn't work. It is an abject, complete disaster. DO NOT DO IT.....Don't buy their POS. It's barely functional.....Understand that I have a better than average understanding of inventory management and excel. I could not make it work. Their support people want to do reach outs and they mess with your firewall settings, and will NOT own up to the fact that the software is intentionally designed to make things difficult unless you keep paying them for additional licenses and spending time on the phone at their per minute charge. We switched to Square and have ZERO complaints. Our ONLY issues experienced with Square are directly tied back to QuickBooks POS issues - the way they have their info set up made the migration/import/export tough. Once we wiped out QBPro POS 18.0 - our lives are now peaceful. One last thing - Square payments arrive overnight - 99.9% of the time - QuickBooks delayed up to 4 days. They are holding your money. It's clearly another tactic - our bank did not change, but our processor did. Way faster and cleaner with Square POS - all around.

A good accounting program for beginners and advanced users

Commenti: I think QB Desktop Pro is good for beginners as well as those who have a little experience. You can use what features you need and ignore the rest. It's easy to find answers to your questions if you have questions. Plus it really is pretty much a standard in accounting software.

I think what I love the most is the customer service. I am a self-taught bookkeeper so I learn as I go. This was VERY easy to use from the beginning. As time has gone by, if I need to do something that I've done before, I can do a search on-line and most of this get an answer that steers me in the right direction. If I still can't figure it out, I talk to customer support and they are very good at walking you through your problem. Let's face it - things happen! They are always there with no exception within just a couple of minutes.

For the most part, QB does a decent job with all aspects of the software. I did have a hard time understanding that deposits needed to go through the "receive payments". I had a pretty good mess at first. But I don't blame that onto QB. It was just one aspect of accounting that I didn't understand at first. I know Intuit is trying to push everyone to QB online but I'm not comfortable with it myself. Last I checked, you weren't allowed to make a copy of your file and store it on your computer. I realize Intuit thinks all that information is stored safe in the cloud but I can think of a million scenarios where that information could be lost or stolen. I refuse to allow myself to believe all will be well just because they say it will be.
