Versatility = Redmine as Bug Tracker/Project Manager

Commenti: Redmine is my de-facto BTS every company I go. I am very happy with its stability, versatility and easy to use for the end user.

Aspetti positivi:

Redmine is a powerful Bug tracker system with such a flexibility that you can use it as your CMS if you want. There is a ton of plugins to install. You can use Redmine as a CRM, ERP, Payroll, etc... as long as the community around it can imagine a use case, it will exist. There are some paid services which customize Redmine to run as a full ERP, but I have no experience with them.

Aspetti negativi:

The installation process can be a pain for novices: You have to prepare your VM installing Ruby, then Ruby Gems and others gems to make advances functions to work. The source control system interface is good, but hard to install and configure. You will have better luck if you download a Bitnami VM or an AWS Appliance Image. There is a Docker image as wall, but I have no experience with it.

It's good but old

You can manage a lot of projets It's GNU/GPL (open source) Capacity to track versions A lot of customizations for all tickets

Nowadays the design is a bit obsolete A bit slow on big projects Hard to manage tickets (filter is old school components)

Full customizable but not great

Aspetti positivi:

One of the things I like the most about Redmine is the customization it has. If you have an on-premise service you could just create your own theme for the company, create your own "ticket" categories and so on. It's very flexible in that way so if you manage it correctly and have a great maintenance probably it's worth for a few bucks.

Aspetti negativi:

It's horrible at issue management, even tho you can customize the UX it's not intuitive, it has a big community but not that big compared with their competitors and most of the plugins are hard to implement or incomplete since are obsolete. Also if you choose the on-premise solution like I said you will have to make a monthly maintenance or in large companies it does not escalate properly and you will have to improve your servers expending more money or even extracting the database to another external service.

Flexible Project Management

Commenti: We're customized Redmine to support several aspects of our IT business. Its made it easy to departmentalize things such as Change Requests, Active Directory Request and General Ticket. We've even integrated it into a Self Serve IT tool we recently launched. Its branched several moved pieces together.

Aspetti positivi:

Redmine supports countless user created plugins. This provides a lot of potential for how Redmine can be used. In our case, we customized Redmine to function as an inexpensive IT Change Management / Ticketing Tool.

Aspetti negativi:

Slight learning curve at first. But Redmine has a lot of forums available, so any challenge you face or feature you may struggle with surely has a forum post about it. I always found the solution to my problem before long.

Use Redmine for yours daily tasks

Commenti: We use Redmine to record everyday task tasks. We would like more resources for project management and agile methodologies. This is generally a good tool, but it depends on your goals.

Aspetti positivi:

Redmine is a great tool for daily tasks. It is opensource and has several plugins that offer more features. Its API allows for easy integration with other software.

Aspetti negativi:

Project management features are lacking. It is very confusing and the presentation is not good. You need reports too, although new ones can be created using the API. Features for agile methodologies are very important. There is a plugin, but it does not offer a good backlog presentation.

Best freely available project management tool

Aspetti positivi:

The advantage of Redmine is that it is freely available and can be freely extended by developing your own plugins.

Aspetti negativi:

Due to the openness of redmine and the possibility of extending it with plugins, it can sometimes take a long time after an update for all plugins, whether purchased or self-developed, to be adapted for the corresponding version.

Clean and organized tool for project planning

Aspetti positivi:

The layout and navigation within Redmine is super easy to pickup and learn. Lots of little feature capabilities that are handy when managing development/it tasks.

Aspetti negativi:

Some little quirks around uploading images and files I ran into, but easily worked around that by just changing the way I would add them. Most likely just an end user error rather than software error.

A cheap option for time tracking management

Aspetti positivi:

The pricing is really good and the integration with attendance devices is really smooth.

Aspetti negativi:

The user interface is very classic, it could be improved. More project management options to be added.

Even if you use another tool, you have Redmine to thank

Commenti: Our marketing teams felt overwhelmed by the complexity if Jira. We just couldn't make it work. Redmine, however, with a set of agile plugins, allowed us to have a true kanban board and implement really robust scrum workflows using Redmine. It was a tremendous experience and really helps us tackle our weekly tasks.

Being an open source project, Redmine has driven out the excess costs from project management and issue tracking software. Almost every other enterprise software project has to keep in mind that their customers can always choose a free and highly customizable read mine installation as an alternative, so Redmine makes the entire ecosystem more robust. What I really like the most is the low overhead for the server so that you can run a very large installation for hundreds or thousands of users on a low cost EC2 instance with extremely good performance. Checkout AWS LightSail if you want AWS specifically. If you're on a tight budget and want something implemented quickly, Redmine is the way to go. There are even hosted solutions out there like Plan.io that take away all the technical requirements for you.

Aspetti negativi:

Out of the box, you will need to get a better skin and probably customize a lot of the UI to make it look more visually appealing. The overall design a Redmine feels a little dated now, so you will need to download other themes or probably purchase a paid one to make it feel more modern and usable.

Been using Redmine for over 10 years - tried lots of PM tools but keep with Redmine

Commenti: We manage all our web development projects through Redmine, over 2000 now in total. I've tried several other PM tools but none had as much power or as good of a price as this!

So I run a small web development team, working with medium to large projects for all sorts of clients. We've been using Redmine for over a decade now and have tried several other project management tools that look nicer, load faster, and are easier to set up. However, Redmine is a solid product that allows you to fully describe project tasks, assign to team members, and keep up with project progress. Once you have it set up, it's easy to use and free except for the hosting. We go with the self hosting option but there is a Redmine hosting service I've seen. Definitely recommend.

Aspetti negativi:

Redmine is clunky, lacks good design, and out of the box, each action requires a new page load. If you do the self-hosted option, you have to install and configure this Ruby on Rails application which is a serious pain in the butt. We hired a guy to set it up for us (3 hours) and the hosting (over 2000 projects now) is costing $22/mo. So even though it's clunky, it does the job well. We are planning on installing some add-ons soon to make it load via Ajax and look nicer.

Aspetti positivi:

Easy log in and easy to create new tickets. Many other programs have multiple approval steps, this program makes it easy and efficient.

Aspetti negativi:

Hard to look up specific project without know exactly how the ticket was opened.

Remine- a project management tool that any industry would need

Commenti: Redmine is a good project management tool, but needs industry / usage specific custom improvements

Perfect value for money

Commenti: I like this app. It is quiet old looking but things getting better in-time. Perfect for lower budget organizations.

Aspetti positivi:

App contains lots of different features for issue tracking and management. You can provide lots of details in issue. Also time tracking and expenses feature are perfect.

Aspetti negativi:

This app is very good for low budget projects. You can get better alternative but mostly for more money. The UI looks a bit old and it can be a bit harder to find some feature.

Free task management tool

Commenti: It is easy to use, useful for independent tasks, small projects and without dependencies.

Aspetti positivi:

It is a free tool that allows you to manage tasks

Aspetti negativi:

It is not very robust, it does not allow me to control state changes with conditions or programming, it does not allow me to create dependencies between tasks that allow me to have a specific project

Great free software for bug tracking and project management

Commenti: Single application to manage projects/ bugs and gain visibility of the work load across all engagements. Integrated wiki allows for creating knowledge base and support information

Aspetti positivi:

Redmine is dead simple to setup (esp. if you get the Bitnami distribution) and use. The application is customizable - custom fields/ custom workflows. It can be easily extended with third party plugins. You can even find free mobile application to see/ manage work items on your phone We managed multiple client implementation and software product development of an Enterprise SaaS application using this.

Aspetti negativi:

While this is not squarely a Redmine issue, it an issue of the underlying stack and has affected us a few times - plugin/ dependency incompatibility. Redmine runs on Ruby and the Ruby plugin architecture issues affect it. So, test the plugin install on a separate instance before you put it on your main instance

Redmine is a very powerful and mature project manager, despite its "little" development time, it is also inspired by trac, so we are facing a very flexible tool in itself, and quite stable. During its use, it is difficult or easy to obtain shortcomings, always depending on what each user is looking for, so you have to be very clear about what you are looking for in this type of tool.

Manage your projects

Commenti: I use this tool daily for the control of tasks and hours dedicated to the projects in which I participate. This allows managers to have a global vision of how many resources are spent for a particular project and to make the best decisions for the business.

Aspetti positivi:

You can manage projects easily and efficiently, it allows you to control metrics such as estimated time spent by teams or by individual, you can create tasks and follow up on specific project functionalities and then you can get reports of time spent for each category in the project and this allows to make better informed decisions for the business.

Aspetti negativi:

The user experience design should be improved since sometimes the functionalities of the tool are not intuitive and this causes some time to be wasted.

Great for issue and task tracking

Commenti: We loved using Redmine, but eventually replaced it with JIRA, JIRA Service Desk, and Confluence. Which helped us better manage help desk and project tracking issues in one system.

When you need a free and open-source project management tool, Redmine is the one to use. It is primarily aimed for development teams who can also install and manage it.

Not always intuitive, but it's all there

Commenti: Redmine can be customised with themes, to suit it to your needs as a project management tool, built specifically with software/web development in mind. We've managed many complex builds using the tool.

The interface can sometimes be a little clunky, and the WYSIWIG editor isn't always the easiest to use - but it does the job!

Good Tool To Manage Projects and Employees

In my company we use it to manage the amount of hours an employee work in different projects every single week, i love it because you get to have a full vision of employees behavior.

Sometimes when you're assiging hours to projects you're involve in it throws an error and you lose everything you had written before that.
